FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Protect federal funds without blocking access to essential services

IDMe helps agencies stop identity fraud before payments go out, while reusable credentials and live verification support simplify access for the people they serve. Prevent and protect, instead of pay and chase.

The trade-off

Stolen identities put public funds and services at risk

Fraudsters use stolen and fabricated identities to target federal payments and benefits. When agencies tighten automated checks to stop them, real applicants get blocked too, facing delays, longer call center queues, and manual reviews.
Our approach

Stop fraud, not the people you serve

IDMe brings reusable identity to the agency’s digital front door, helping people access participating services with a credential they already have. For users needing a new credential, IDMe offers multiple ways to prove their identity.

Better access for the public, stronger protection for agencies

Connect access across agencies

Citizens and professionals reuse an existing IDMe Wallet across participating federal services, reducing repeated identity checks as they move between tax, benefits, healthcare, and business accounts.

Help stop fraud before funds go out

Layered identity checks and secure sign-in help stop imposters from claiming benefits or redirecting payments, protecting public funds and sensitive information.

Give more legitimate people a way through

Self-service, live video chat, and in-person options help people overcome verification hurdles, reducing support calls and manual work for agency staff.

How it works

1
Connect without replacing

Connect IDMe to your agency’s websites, sign-in tools, and eligibility systems without replacing what you already use.

2
Verify at the first point of need

People sign in with an existing IDMe credential or identity proof with layered fraud checks.

3
Keep legitimate users moving

People who cannot complete automated checks can use live video chat or in-person verification.

4
Recognize people across services

Participating agencies receive verified identity information, allowing people to reuse their credential across services.

Connect Veterans to benefits and care

Protect VA benefits and account access from synthetic-identity and stolen-credential fraud while giving Veterans the same verified identity they already use at VA.gov.

Retirement & Social Security

Keep benefits within reach, wherever people live

Retirement and benefits agencies can support secure account access with a reusable credential, including for people living outside the United States, the same way SSA does today.

Frequently asked questions

How does IDMe work across federal agencies?

IDMe gives applicants a reusable digital identity credential that participating federal agencies, including the IRS, VA, SSA, and CMS, can accept across their own portals. Each agency controls its own service and receives only the identity information needed for that interaction, with the applicant's consent.

How is IDMe different from other identity verification providers?

IDMe combines identity verification, secure sign-in, and a reusable credential already used across participating federal services. People can return with an existing verified identity, while live video verification provides another path when automated checks aren’t enough.

How does IDMe fit with the identity systems we already run?

IDMe proves who someone is; your IAM platform manages the session. We integrate with Okta, Ping, and Microsoft Entra over standard OIDC and SAML, without a rip-and-replace.

How does IDMe handle data sharing across agencies?

IDMe shares only the specific identity attributes an agency requests, for example name, date of birth, and verified identity assurance level, and only after the applicant explicitly authorizes that release through a standards-based consent screen. Each agency integration is separate: authorizing a request from the IRS doesn’t share anything with VA, SSA, or CMS, and IDMe doesn’t combine or forward attributes across agencies on its own.

How does IDMe support federal security requirements?

IDMe holds a FedRAMP Moderate ATO (VA-sponsored) and has held the Kantara IAL2/AAL2 trust mark since 2018. Every verification decision leaves a compliance trail agencies can produce for an audit.
